What kind of coverage are you trying to solve for?
Choose a starting point for general education. A licensed review is still needed to confirm eligibility, availability and plan details.
ACA Marketplace and private individual plans
Compare comprehensive medical plans, provider networks, prescriptions and total cost. Marketplace coverage is the only path to income-based premium tax credits when eligible.
This tool provides general education—not a quote, eligibility determination or recommendation.
Understand the role each type of coverage can play.
The right path depends on your health needs, location, household, income, timing and tolerance for financial risk.
ACA Marketplace health plans
Comprehensive individual and family medical coverage purchased through the federal or a state Marketplace. Eligible households may qualify for premium tax credits, and some may qualify for cost-sharing reductions with an eligible Silver plan.
- ACA essential health benefits and consumer protections
- Bronze, Silver, Gold and, when eligible, Catastrophic categories
- Enrollment during Open Enrollment or a qualifying Special Enrollment Period
- Potential savings based on household and eligibility information
Important: Only the Marketplace makes an official subsidy and enrollment eligibility determination.
Private individual health plans
ACA-compliant medical plans may also be purchased directly from an insurer or through a licensed agency outside the Marketplace. These plans can be worth reviewing when a household does not qualify for Marketplace savings or wants to compare additional carrier options.
- No Marketplace premium tax credit on an off-exchange plan
- Provider networks and formularies can differ by carrier and product
- Enrollment windows and eligibility rules still apply
- Compare total annual exposure—not premium alone
Off-exchange does not automatically mean short-term or limited coverage. Confirm whether a plan is ACA-compliant before enrolling.
Short-term medical and TriTerm
Short-term medical coverage is designed for certain temporary gaps, such as a transition between jobs or waiting for other coverage to begin. Where available, TriTerm-branded coverage may provide a different transitional structure under current carrier and state rules.
- Availability, duration and renewal provisions vary by state
- Medical underwriting may apply
- Pre-existing conditions and certain benefits may be excluded or limited
- Not a substitute for ACA-compliant comprehensive coverage
Review carefully: exclusions, benefit limits, prescriptions, maternity, mental health, preventive care, network access and what happens when coverage ends.
Dental and vision insurance
Standalone dental and vision plans can help with routine care and certain eligible services. Coverage can be purchased on its own or alongside medical insurance, depending on the plan and market.
- Preventive, basic and major dental benefit structures
- Waiting periods, annual maximums and network rules
- Vision exams, frames, lenses and contact allowances
- Adult and child benefit differences
Compare the plan’s allowed amounts, network discounts, frequency limits and exclusions—not just the annual maximum.
Accident and hospital indemnity
Supplemental policies may pay fixed or limited benefits for covered accidents, hospital stays or specified services. Benefits may help with eligible out-of-pocket costs or other household expenses, depending on the policy.
- Accident benefit schedules and covered events
- Hospital admission, confinement or service benefits
- Optional riders and family coverage where available
- Policy definitions, exclusions and claim requirements
These products are supplemental coverage. They are not comprehensive medical insurance and do not replace an ACA major medical plan.
Critical illness and other supplemental coverage
Depending on your goals and state availability, other products may help address financial exposure connected with a covered cancer diagnosis, heart event, critical illness, disability or other specified risk.
- Lump-sum or scheduled benefits for covered conditions
- Benefits defined by the specific policy
- Pre-existing-condition provisions may apply
- Coordinate supplemental benefits with your medical plan
A licensed review can help identify overlap, gaps and whether a supplemental policy fits the need you are trying to address.

Common questions before you enroll.
When can I enroll in an ACA Marketplace plan?
You can generally enroll during the annual Open Enrollment Period. Outside that window, you may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period after certain life events or under another eligibility rule. The Marketplace determines eligibility and applicable deadlines.
Can I receive a subsidy on a private off-exchange plan?
No. Premium tax credits are available only for eligible coverage purchased through a federal or state Health Insurance Marketplace. An off-exchange plan may still be worth comparing when you do not qualify for savings or want to review other available carrier options.
Is short-term medical the same as ACA coverage?
No. Short-term medical is limited-duration coverage and is not required to include all ACA protections or essential health benefits. Medical underwriting, exclusions, benefit limits and state-specific restrictions may apply.
What is TriTerm medical coverage?
TriTerm is a carrier-branded transitional medical product that may be available in certain states. Its structure, duration, underwriting, renewability and benefits depend on the current policy and applicable rules. It is not the same as ACA-compliant comprehensive coverage.
How should I compare plans if I take prescriptions or see specific doctors?
Check each plan’s current provider directory and formulary, then confirm important details with the carrier or provider before enrollment. Networks and drug coverage can change and may vary even among plans from the same carrier.
Do accident or hospital indemnity plans replace medical insurance?
No. They are supplemental policies that pay defined benefits for covered events or services. They are not comprehensive medical insurance and should be evaluated alongside—not in place of—major medical coverage.

Important coverage information
This page provides general educational information and is not a complete description of benefits, a quote, a guarantee of coverage or an offer to enroll. Product availability, eligibility, rates, benefits, networks, formularies, exclusions and limitations vary by state, carrier and plan. Policy, certificate, carrier and Marketplace documents control.
Premium tax credit and cost-sharing eligibility is determined by the applicable Health Insurance Marketplace based on the information in an application and current law. Advance premium tax credits are reconciled on the enrollee’s federal tax return. Solomon Health Group does not provide tax or legal advice. Consult a qualified tax professional regarding your circumstances.
Short-term and TriTerm medical coverage is not required to comply with all federal market requirements that apply to ACA-compliant individual health insurance. It may exclude or limit coverage for pre-existing conditions, essential health benefits, prescriptions, maternity care, mental health services, preventive services or other care. Coverage duration, renewability and availability are subject to federal and state law and carrier rules. Loss or expiration of limited-duration coverage may not create a Special Enrollment Period.
Accident, hospital indemnity, critical illness and other supplemental products provide limited or fixed benefits for covered events. They are not comprehensive major medical insurance and are not substitutes for ACA-compliant coverage.
Provider directories and formularies can change. Confirm provider participation and prescription coverage with the carrier and provider before enrollment. Applications may be submitted through Solomon Health Group, LLC or its designated agents only where properly licensed and appointed.
